Takshashila Academy is an educational institution that provides a platform for students to explore their potential and achieve high-quality education. Established in 1998, the academy draws inspiration from the ancient Takshashila University — a renowned center of learning that existed even before the time of Lord Buddha. It was at that historic university where Panini composed the Ashtadhyayi, the most comprehensive Sanskrit grammar ever written, and where scholars studied Mahayana Buddhism. It was also the place where Kautilya (Chanakya) studied, taught, and wrote his legendary treatise Arthashastra, a foundational work on economics and statecraft.
At Takshashila Academy, we embrace this rich legacy of learning by providing an excellent teaching–learning environment that fosters academic excellence through highly qualified educators from Nepal and abroad. We are committed to bringing together the best teachers and students to create a vibrant academic atmosphere — one that promotes scientific and philosophical inquiry, encourages critical thinking, and supports research across diverse fields of knowledge through dedication and rigorous work.
Located on Tokha Road, Kharibot, Kathmandu, opposite the Nepal CRS Company building, Takshashila Academy remains committed to delivering education that not only imparts knowledge but also shapes character, inspires innovation, and prepares students to meet the challenges of a changing world.

What does Takshashila Mean ?
According to the Monier-Williams Sanskrit-English Dictionary, the word “Taksha” means to form by cutting, planing, chiseling, or chopping, as used in the Rig-Veda. It also conveys the idea of forming the mind, inventing, or fashioning something out of wood or stone — to make or create. The word “Shila” means stone. Thus, “Takshashila” means “to carve the stone,” symbolizing the transformation of something raw and formless into a refined and meaningful form.
In the context of education, this meaning reflects the process through which learning shapes and refines an unformed mind into a beautiful and enlightened one. This idea is represented by the volcanic rock and the carved stone image of Buddha — showing education as a creative and transformative force.
At Takshashila Academy, we embrace this philosophy as the foundation of our educational approach, nurturing young minds to realize their fullest potential through creativity, discipline, and learning, much like carving and chiseling a stone into a meaningful Idol.
